Chatswood IEC Food Garden & Bushcare
Students learn about the environment by doing activities in the Food Garden and in the Bushcare group.
In the Food Garden students learn about soil, planting seeds and growing vegetables. They use the vegetables in cooking, with recipes from different cultures and learn about healthy living.
The students have also planted indigenous plants to create native habitat and study the Aborigines’ use of plants for bush tucker and medicine.
Every month, on a Saturday, students participate in Bushcare activities in the bushland of the IEC with Willoughby Council.
Students learn how to regenerate the bushland and protect the native wildlife and habitat. Students have opportunities for social interaction, teamwork and learning to be good citizens in caring for the environment.
